The Center for Army Leadership (CAL), in conjunction with Army Management Staff College (AMSC), hosted a two-day Multi-Source Assessment and Feedback coaching workshop, Feb. 15-16, 2017, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
The purpose of these workshops is to train faculty and staff at the AMSC to provide coaching to students on their Leader 360 assessment results during the resident phase of their course. Coaching is the essential element that links feedback interpretation with developmental planning and execution. The coaches are taught to remain objective, help the leader to interpret and understand his/her feedback, identify strengths and developmental needs, provide insight or suggestions on how to build on knowledge and skills, and guide the leader through the creation and execution of an individual leadership development plan (ILDP).
“The MSAF Coaching workshop is instrumental in developing competence and confidence as MSAF 360 coaches. Our Department of Enterprise Leadership Facilitators have gained valuable skills for assisting enterprise leaders with their Individual Leadership Development Plan (ILDP),” said Robert E. Brunk, Ed.D. Director, Department of Enterprise Leadership at AMSC.
He pointed out that data from various leadership surveys suggest leaders must do a better job of developing others. The benefits from developing skills in coaching improve relationships and organizations. Coaching, counseling and mentoring are crucial to the acculturation process and professionalization of the Army Civilian Corps.
Brunk said, “Our facilitators will use these newly acquired skills to improve leader engagement for the Army Civilian Corps.”
The AMSC educates and develops the Army Civilian Corps for leadership and management responsibilities throughout the Army and serves as Executive Agent for the Army Civilian Education System (CES).
CAL will continue to offer this training at Fort Leavenworth. It is also available at TRADOC schools for the next 18 months. People who are interested in setting up an MSAF Coaching Workshop for their organization can contact Chuck Eberth at email@example.com .
